STRELITZIA REGINAE

The Strelitzia Reginae is a plant of tropical origin. very versatile, it is used both as a cut flower and in a pot. Its grayish green leaves have long stems that grow unevenly, and usually do not exceed one and a half meters. Its flowers are held in its floral stem because of its natural beauty and bright colours. It is very resistant to wind, so it can occupy an unprotected place in the garden.

LIGHT	Due to its tropical origin, it is better to put them in plenty sun.
TEMPERATURE	The best climate is tropical and subtropical, but it also grows well in Mediterranean climates. Temperatures below 10ºC can be withstood but hinder flowering.
IRRIGATION	It does not need an abundant watering, but it is advisable to keep the soil always moist during all in summer.
SOIL	To grow better you need well drained and deep soils with a neutral pH or slightly alkaline.
FLOWERING	It can flower several times a year, depending on the maturity of the plant and the weather. Its flower has a very exotic and elegant appearance, orange and blue in the shape of a bird's head. They are very striking.
FERTILIZER	Any type of fertilizer that is not excessively nitrogenized will do well. If the soil is very alkaline, an iron supply can be applied to avoid or correct ferric chlorosis.
PRUNING	It only requires maintenance pruning to remove dead leaves and withered flowers.
