STRELITZIA NICOLAI


The Strelitzia Nicolai is a very decorative plant of the tropical or subtropical areas. Its common name is "bird of paradise" and has its origin in South Africa, in Cape Town. It is widely used for interior tropical style courtyards or gardens. Its care is simple in tropical and Mediterranean climates. Its rate of growth is rapid.

Warm climates, but affords light frosts.

Frequent watering, especially in spring and summer. The adult plant can withstand some drought.

SOIL


Fertile soil, moist and well drained.

FLOWERING


In winter, spring and summer. The plant has to be adult (2 years at least) to flower. Its flower looks like the head of a tropical bird, of violet and clear colours.

FERTILIZED


It is recommended to make several compost subscribers in spring and summer.

PRUNING


Maintenance pruning can be done by removing withered leaves and old flowers.
